This brief summary of psychoanalyst, Erik
Erikson’s life stages may be helpful for Support Brokers to
review and print for their portfolio. The developmental stages begin
at Infant and progress through to the Older Adult stage. Support
Brokers should carefully read the introductory paragraph. How do
these descriptions of development influence how you develop expectations
for individuals with disabilities? Following this brief summary
is an article on Adult Developmental Stages by Arthur McArthur.
Typically, developmental stages are discussed in terms of infanthood
through ages 19 or 20. Mr. McArthur; however, discusses the transitions
that adults go through and how their perspective on their future
changes throughout time.

Adult Developmental Stages
These two readings are designed to provide Support Brokers with
a brief review of what is meant by developmental stages in theory.
Although they do not specifically make statements about disability
issues; it is pertinent to consider how a disability often changes
the expectations society has on growth and development of a person.
