DEVELOPING COMMUNITY

VIDEO

Lia Haile

Lia describes her experiences seeking accessible activities in her community. Think of ways to find and/or create accessible activities for your employers?

The following articles provide additional information about developing community for your employers. In Idaho, especially in rural areas, the success of community development will rest a great deal on the ability of Support Brokers to creatively, but wisely, find opportunities for their employers.  It is essential that you think broadly while seeking to meet needs and expand horizons.

Disability advocates, Patsy Davies and Claudia Bolton, created a guide for those who support individuals with disabilities. This unique combination of stories, descriptions, and activities will help Support Brokers review the "exciting and difficult, simple and mysterious" process of connecting people. We encourage you to carefully review this Guide so that you begin to identify what strategies make sense to you.

Pages 3, 4, and 5 provide Support Brokers with a quick beginning to the nature of community. This guide provides strategies for you to consider as you assist your employers to gain access to their local communities.
