Idaho's developmental disability
network is comprised of many agencies and organizations. Although
each organization has its own specific mission, all of them routinely
interact and collaborate with one another. Staff members frequently
sit on committees convened by other organizations.
UI Center on Disabilities and Human Development
(CDHD)
The University of Idaho Center on Disabilities and Human Development
is one of a 61-member university network of centers serving individuals
with disabilities and their families. As a member of this network
CDHD has access to emerging innovations from university centers
across the country. CDHD functions as a bridge between the university
and the community, bringing together the resources of both to achieve
meaningful change.
Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities
(ICDD) The Council provides public education and awareness
about developmental disabilities, promotes quality in-service supports
for people with disabilities and their families; monitors and evaluates
policies, plans, and services provided by public agencies; encourages
citizen participation in policy making; and promotes innovative
programs and projects through grants. The Council represents the
concerns of people with developmental disabilities and their families
to the Governor, the Idaho Legislature, Idaho's Congressional delegation,
and state and federal agencies.
Comprehensive Advocacy (Co-Ad)
Comprehensive Advocacy, Inc. (Co-Ad) is a private non-profit legal
services organization designated by the Governor as the Protection
and Advocacy System for the State of Idaho. Founded in 1977, Co-Ad
is the only legal rights organization in Idaho exclusively for people
with disabilities. Co-Ad operates federally funded grant programs
to protect the legal rights of persons with disabilities. The terms
of these grants only allow us to serve individuals who fit into
specific federal eligibility categories. Due to limited funding
in each program, specific service priorities and objectives are
established on an annual basis (see link below). Co-Ad actively
invites public comment regarding program priorities or any other
aspect of its services. The vast majority of Co-Ad's services are
provided free of charge to their clients.

grassroots advocates, who, in turn, will develop systemic changes
in public policy to positively impact people with disabilities.

OTHER HELPFUL RESOURCES
Community Action Agencies in Idaho
Six Community Action Partnership agencies within the state employ
hundreds of people and assist over 100,000 low income and disadvantaged
participants annually. In addition to the six CAPs in Idaho, CAPAI's
other members serving Idaho's poor include the Idaho Migrant Council
and CCOA-Aging Weatherization and Human Services. All CAP's in Idaho
are nongovernmental, private non-profit organizations. They are
an example of the private sector stepping in to work with the Idaho
Department of Health & Welfare to work with those in poverty. Each
Community Action Partnership is anchored in the community by a Board
of Directors made up in equal parts by low-income people, members
of the business community, and local elected public officials. This
unique mix of board members assures that the specific needs of each
community are represented.
Resources that can be accessed through CAPs include, but are not
limited to:
